Purdue University Awards Honorary Doctorate in Engineering to Anthony “Tony” Harris, CSECO President and CEO

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Co. (CSECO) President and CEO Anthony “Tony” Harris an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering during May 11 commencement ceremonies at Purdue University. The Honorary Doctorate is the highest honor Purdue University bestows to an engineering alumnus and recognizes Harris’ outstanding accomplishments in the engineering field. This degree is only given to those who have made exceptional and lasting achievements in the field of engineering.

Harris received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1975. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business he earned in 1979. This Honorary Doctorate continues his long-standing relationship with the university.

Before he purchased CSECO, which was established by Patrick J. Campbell in 1984, Harris was the vice president for Calpine Corporation. Prior to that, he was the vice president of national account services and western region sales for PG&E Energy Services. He has also held the position of vice president of marketing and sales for Pacific Gas and Electric Company as well as president of Standard Pacific Gas Line, Inc.

An entrepreneur at heart, Harris has also been president and CEO of StyleChoice.com and Sonoma Ford/Lincoln Mercury. He also is active in the community. He is passionate about training young engineers and founded the National Society of Black Engineers over 32 years ago as a student at Purdue University. He currently serves as it’s national advisory board chairman. He is a member of the board of directors for SF JAZZ Center Foundation and the One Pacific Coast Bank Advisory Board. He enjoys contemporary art, jazz and wine.
