Damaune Journey, CSECO’s Director of International Sales & Marketing, recently conducted training on the Buster, CT-30 Contraband Detection Team Kit and FV-Series Fiberscopes for Customs Authority personnel.

Each day of the trip we visited the border crossing with Russia. The Customs Authority personnel use CSECO contraband detection equipment including the Buster and FV-Series Fiberscope. One day at the border Customs Authority officers were able to locate two vehicles carrying loosely packed illegal Russian cigarettes in hollow compartments in their bumpers.

This photo (left) shows the hidden compartments where illegal Russian cigarettes were being smuggled into a neighboring country. Using the CSECO Buster, the Customs Authority officers were able to find these compartments. The Buster is sensitive enough to locate small and low density items such as cigarettes. Many countries in the former Soviet Union have problems with cigarettes being smuggled from one country to another. These photos (center and right) show Customs Authority agents checking tires at the border using the CSECO Buster, the best density meter available for drug interdiction and contraband detection.

According to the officers at the Customs Authority, the training provided the necessary information for “the safe use of the fiberscope probe” as well as the “more efficient use of the Buster.”

Each year CSECO provides training services for our overseas customers at remote locations. Contact us for details and pricing Journey@cseco.com.

csecoContraband detection has become something that is needed more than ever by our law enforcement agencies. Police officers suspecting transportation of contraband and customs agents, among others, find that the Buster K910B Density Meter is an excellent tool for ascertaining the truth of a potential contraband smuggling situation anywhere in the United States. The device is often considered the “gold standard” for contraband detection.

The creator of the Buster, Patrick J. Campbell, has been designing equipment to detect radioactivity and hidden things for over 35 years. The equipment he manufactures is easily used by people with no technical experience. He worked with the government, the Border Patrol, and US Customs to design the Buster density meter. While he originally meant it to find cash and controlled drugs, the end result turned out to be effective for these as well as other contraband.

The Buster K910B Density Meter is manufactured by Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company. It emits a low intensity gamma radiation and detects scintillation, allowing it to scan quickly and return a result regarding hidden contraband in just a few minutes. A vehicle can often be checked in under five minutes, and it can scan most rooms of average size in under ten minutes, making this a very efficient device.

Other devices available for detecting contraband, most notably ones that use millimeter or radio wave, or ultra-violet or microwave, are viewed as inferior by some professionals due to their limitations. The primary limitation of these devices is the fact that each meter is made to handle one kind of shielding material. The Buster, however, can scan through wood or metal or plastic – even reinforced plastic. It is easy to catch hidden items without causing damage to the items in which they are hidden.

The Buster K910B Density Meter also has an audio response as well as the LCD video readout. The device is made to find narcotics, cash, explosives and weapons. It is also possible to get to previously inaccessible areas by adding the optional telescoping handle.

Radioactive material is indicated on the Buster, allowing first responders to know immediately how dangerous the area is, and have a better idea of what might have happened. This allows a safe perimeter to be formed so people can be kept from harm.

CSECO’s Buster K910B Density Meter is being used by such agencies as the US Customs and Border Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Guard and Coast Guard, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and law enforcement agencies in local, state, federal, and international locations.

The main thing that sets the Buster K910B apart from its competition is the fact that it is very user friendly. CSECO guarantees their units and offers training to anyone who purchases these devices. CSECO can be contacted by email at info@cseco.com or by phone at 510-864-8010.

Fiberscope detection kit with money located

Every police officer dreams of making a difference in the community they serve. On April 14, Hinds County Sheriff’s officers were able to do exactly that. During a routine traffic stop on I-55, the officer noticed here were tool marks around the bolts of the truck bed and fuel tank. The officer was suspicious of the markings but did not have the correct tools that would allow him to properly inspect the vehicle. He remembered, however, that a fellow officer kept a CSECO FV Series Fiberscope Detection Kit in his vehicle. The Fiberscope enables law enforcement to search tough-to-reach places. The officer knew what he had to do – reach out to his colleague for assistance.

money found with CSECO fiberscope detection kitThe officer soon arrived with the CSECO FV Series Fiberscope Detection Kit. The officers were able to use the fiberscope by inserting it into the vehicle’s fuel tank fill-tube. They were amazed at what they found. Thanks to the fiberscope’s 16,000 glass fiber optic strands and bright LED light, the officers were able to see multiple bundles of US dollars carefully shrink-wrapped and floating in the truck’s fuel tank. The inspection was conducted on the side of the freeway without the need of impounding the vehicle because the FV Series Fiberscope made it possible to clearly identify the contraband via the fiberscope.

The vehicle was then taken to the police station. They removed the truck bed to access the fuel tank. They discovered that nearly 75% of the fuel tank was filled with bundles of smuggled currency. The total of the bundles was $547,620! The officer acknowledges the outcome would have been completely different if they did not have access to the CSECO contraband detection tools, specifically the CSECO FV Series Fiberscope detection kit. They would not have been able to locate the currency and the seizure would not have been possible.

officers with CSECO Fiberscope and money foundThe officer was so enthused with the results; he offered the following unsolicited thoughts.

“The following pictures are of the money seizure Hinds County Deputy made on Interstate 55 in Mississippi on April 14th, 2013. Using the CSECO FV Series Fiberscope, I viewed the tank’s interior and noticed numerous packages of US Currency in heat sealed bags, concealed in the gas tank. Feel free to use them [the photos] for promotional reasons.”

CSECO team members are equally thrilled to read of the officer’s success with the CSECO contraband equipment. “We focus on making inspection equipment like the comprehensive CT30 Contraband Team Inspection Kit which includes the Buster® K910B Contraband Detector and the CSECO FV Series Fiberscope Detection Kit for moments like these,” said CSECO president Tony Harris. “The officer’s job was made easier and American streets made safer by using our equipment and that is our mission.”

The contraband detection equipment CSECO manufactures namely the CT-30 Contraband Team Inspection Kit, the Buster® K910B Contraband Detector, and the CSECO FV-Series Fiberscope Detection Kit are employed by the US government and over 60 foreign governments. They are also the hand-held tools preferred by hundreds of state and local law enforcement agencies for inspecting vehicles, vessels, airplanes, and cargo for smuggled goods.  The Buster® K910B Contraband Detector has been the safest, most reliable such device available for over 30 years. It is characterized by proven performance, along with the other CSECO tools, to limit the flow of illegal narcotics, currency, and explosives into the U.S. and its partners.

As narcotics smugglers find new ways to conceal their contraband in new vehicle models and unorthodox locations, US Customs and Border Patrol Agents must also adapt and improve their interdiction equipment to stay a step ahead of the traffickers. In addition providing the world’s leading density meter, Density Buster K910B, CSECO is now offering a much improved model of optical fiberscope. The new fiberscope greatly improves the ease and accuracy in which officers can inspect tough to reach areas in vehicles such as gas tanks and dashboard control panels.

CSECO’s lightweight FV Series Fiberscope provides exceptional mobility and the built in LED light source provides brilliant high resolution images. Interdiction officers can quickly and efficiently perform a thorough visual inspection of concealed areas in suspect vehicles with the FV Series Fiberscope. It includes a 2 meter (80 inch) tungsten shielded insertion probe which can be safely submerged in fuel or water without causing damage to the scope. Also, with the probe inserted in narrow vehicle passages the officer can survey 120 degrees with the fiberscope’s built in up-down 2 way articulation. With over 16,000 individual strands of optical fiber and the high-intensity light handle visibility is crystal clear even in the darkest spaces.

There are also a number of additional product attachments and accessories offered with the FV Series Fiberscope that make this an invaluable tool in the fight to keep drugs and various contraband off the streets. One such attachment is the Megapixel camera with 3” LCD monitor which grants the officer easy viewing while simultaneously recording the findings for later reporting. Another useful attachment is the Window Wedge used to allow the fiberscope probe to inspect door panels.
